Tribute

Whangarei, New Zealand

i just want to thank everyone who came to Mum's funeral, I feel that it was a really nice celebration of her life, and I was very happy to see family there that don't get together very often, it was so good to re-connect. We tried to do everything that Mum had wanted, so I hope she was happy, looking down on it all.

It was a great service / send off for Nell. I was particularly impressed how all four grand-children spoke, paid tribute which showed how much affection they had for her.

I am sorry to hear of Nell’s passing -- the last of the Whitehead family of Kaeo. My family had a long history in Kaeo alongside the Whiteheads. Rest in peace Nell. Trevor Bramley.

Thank you Trevor. As you know your family and my family were related through a common 19th century Maori ancestor, Maraea Te Inutoto who had 12 children with Englishman Stephen Wrathall who came out here to log kauri. One of the first Maori Pakeha marriages in NZ. He was 15 and she was 17. From this marriage in 1831 many, many families in Mangonui, Kaeo, Whangaroa area arose. Nell was the grand-daughter of Charlotte Whitehead, Maraea's daughter.

Nell was my father David's sister. She was always a loving kind person to all but especially to my father. After the separation or my parents every year Nell would have my father for Christmas. I am eternally grateful for this. He didn't have to have Christmas alone. Much love to you Nell. You will be missed. Your nephew Alastair
